The workshop "Modelling science - Understanding, forecasting, and communicating the science system" took place from October 6 to October 9, 2009 in Amsterdam. This new area of research succeeded to bring together promising young researchers and world renowned experts in the fields of information and library sciences; information visualization; computer scientists; sociology, economy and policy research; and physicists in order to approach the modelling and the mapping of science from different perspectives.
